I answer without reservation, David Dewhurst.

The race has clearly narrowed to David and one other principal opponent, Ted Cruz. I know and have worked with both Dewhurst and Cruz. As a firsthand witness, I know David Dewhurst is committed to the conservative values and hard work which has made our state great. Frankly, I am disappointed in Cruz distorting David’s record as Lt. Governor.

Lt Governor Dewhurst believes in and helped protect the “Texas Economic Miracle” (see Texas, the Economic Miracle at texansfortommy.com). Our state’s thriving economic environment didn’t just happen on its own; it required the leadership and hard work of David Dewhurst and all my Republican colleagues in the Texas Senate.

Collectively, these fundamental policy goals have resulted in a political and economic environment conducive to INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY and business success.

TEXAS IS THE MODEL OF REPUBLICAN PRINCIPLES - A MODEL OUR FDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD FOLLOW.

David Dewhurst is the ONLY candidate in the race for U.S. Senate who has ACTUALLY DONE what we as Republicans know MUST HAPPEN in Washington D. C. if our country is to prosper again.

I recommend David Dewhurst for U. S. Senate without reservation.

Williams was instrumental in securing The Woodlands’ freedom from Houston, ensuring the master-planned community is able to create its own governmental path and continues to look out for the best interests of his constituents while passing important legislation on immigration and border security, voter ID, pro-life issues and government spending reform. He serves and leads key committees and will continue play an integral part of shaping our state government.

However, the Republican Party of Texas also wishes to extend special thanks and credit to three Republican members of the upper chamber in the State Senate who have stepped up to help the RPT in our efforts to strengthen our Republican majority in Texas.

Said RPT State Chairman Steve Munisteri, "Our sincere thanks goes out to State Senators Florence Shapiro and Joan Huffman for going above and beyond to bolster the RPT's work in this past election cycle. Senator Shapiro contributed $10,000 to supporting the RPT, and Senator Huffman raised $7000 for our state party's work. Their outstanding generosity is truly appreciated, and I am very honored that we have earned the support of these women - both, true Texas Republican leaders. On a related note, I'd also like to extend our congratulations to both Senators Shapiro and Huffman on their landslide victories on Tuesday night!"

"I would also like to thank State Senator Tommy Williams, who similarly demonstrated tremendous dedication to our State Party with his contribution of $10,000 in this last cycle. Although he was not on the ballot in Senate District 4 during this particular election, the Republican Party in that area continues to thrive under his leadership. We saw large victories and Republican pickups across all six counties in his district, and are very excited about the number of new elected officials from The Woodlands all the way to Orange. I am honored that the RPT enjoys Senator Williams' support and generosity."

It’s no secret that Texas is a great and very special state, but our economic fortunes haven’t always been so exceptional. Texas has experienced population booms in the past, but something seems to be different this time. It’s such a time as this that we should examine why so many are moving to Texas. What makes our state so attractive to people from all over the country?

Austin ~ The Senate Finance Committee approved their version of the state's 2012-13 budget Thursday morning in a brief meeting.

"After months of review and some hard moments of reality, the Senate Finance Committee rolled out a responsible and conservative budget - one which protects public education and preserves nursing home beds without raising new taxes," said Senator Williams.

The committee's proposal cuts 5% of all funds from the current spending levels and contemplates spending roughly half of the expected rainy day available fund balance through the end of the upcoming biennium.

"Based on current trends the state's rainy day fund is projected to grow to over 12 billion in the next two years," noted Williams. "This proposed budget anticipates leaving approximately 6.0 billion to deal with any potential shortfall when the legislature returns in 2013."

The Texas Senate reconvenes Tuesday, April 26, and the budget is expected to be debated on the floor next week.
