AGFUND Backs Tommy Williams’ Re-election

WACO--The Texas Farm Bureau Friends of Agriculture Fund (AGFUND), Inc. has endorsed State Senator Tommy Williams in his re-election bid for Senate District 4 in Southeast Texas.

Williams, a Republican from The Woodlands, was first elected to the Texas Senate in 2002 and won re-election in 2004. He represents Chambers, Liberty and Orange counties and portions of Harris, Jefferson and Montgomery counties.

As a Texas Senator, Williams is vice chair of the State Affairs Committee and serves on the Finance, Education, and Transportation and Homeland Security. In addition, Williams sits on the Subcommittee on Higher Education. By special appointment of Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Williams serves as a member of the Senate Select Committee on Education Reform and Public School Finance, and the Legislative Audit Committee.

Williams authored and passed Senate Bill 734 in the 2005 Legislative Session that helped protect the Second Amendment of “the right of the people to keep and bear arms.”

“Senator Williams passed a Farm Bureau priority issue in SB 734 which protected the rights of landowners to hunt on their land within city limits. He earned an 80 percent voting record with Texas Farm Bureau AGFUND during the 2007 legislative session, which is based on issues important to agriculture,” said Kenneth Dierschke, president of Texas Farm Bureau and AGFUND.

AGFUND is Texas Farm Bureau’s political action fund. It is a legal entity separate from the Texas Farm Bureau and may endorse and contribute financially to political candidates.
